Illreceived: 40 Minute Unloading Zone

By Alistair Wickens
hristchurch band Illreceived have been around for a few years now but have only just released their first album. Containing 10 studio tracks and seven live tracks recorded at Christchurch's Dux de Lux, this sounds like it's suffering from a slight case of schizophrenia. Swinging between crunching hardcore and dance - along ska, joke songs and political anthems, the album never seems to settle on one particular style and as a result doesn't ever flow. The band show their potential on live tracks such as One Sided Story and End of You. The less serious songs (such as Pies, about, well, pies) are reminiscent of bands like Guttermouth, while the hardcore tracks are well constructed but sound like any decent hardcore band. The lyrics are what really lets the album down and more time should have been spent on them. The live ska moments are great fun, and show the band really comes into its element playing live.
