Ermehn: The Path of Blood
By Andrew Hughes
With this album Ermehn plants his flag to make a unique sound which will be hard to gimmick. Unfortunately this 20 track effort is difficult to listen to. The production by Alan Togi seems dated and harsh, yet contributes to the increasingly explicit material. Even on tracks like Silver and Gold where a melody actually comes into play, Ermehn manages to scare the musical quality out of the song, shouting rather than blending to the mood. Featuring the likes of Mareko, Tha Feelstyle and DJ CXL the record does its thing by presenting a 'gangsta' sound, but is cluttered and lacks transition. Snake City and Free Fallen would be my favourites, while the graphic tales of Bank Job and Die Again are well written and disturbing. With big names behind the scenes of this album, you would probably expect more quality of music.
