Poison Arrow: Last Chance Ranch
By Alistair Wickens
Poison Arrow's latest release is a simple affair, looking like it was put together on a home computer and sounding as though it was recorded the same way - which, as it happens, suits their style. Despite being around for nearly a decade this appears to be their first release on CD and is definitely worth a listen if you're a fan of that dark mid-80s punk sound. Even if you're not a fan of that style, this album still an interesting listen. Highlights are the 'ballad' Armpit Mould and the opening track Compromise City, a song that anyone who grew up in a small town (or anywhere in NZ), will likely be able to relate too. While not particularly innovative the band do write interesting, catchy songs and play together well. Credit also has to be given for their use of the theremin, an instrument not used enough.
