David yetton: Blow Out Your Candles

By Nick Batt
It's been a while since we've heard anything from the former JPSE and Stereo Bus singer/songwriter David Yetton. Surrounded by an assortment of 'old hands' (Ed Cake, Ross Burge, Bobby Kennedy, Francis Hunt, Gareth Thomas, Anna Paris, Jason Smith, Nigel Collins, and Brett Adams), Yetton steers 'Blow Out Your Candles' into what now must be very familiar territory for him - his unique brand of quirky pop ("sissy-pop" in his words). Produced by Dale Cotton the album was initially recorded at Platform Studio in mid 2004 and then completed in Yetton's own home studio. As you would expect the quality is very good. Yetton hasn't lost any of his ability to craft catchy riffs and somehow manages to make what are at times inane lyrics, seem right. If you are a long time Stereo Bus fan or want to find out what quality indigenous pop is all about then add this to your shopping list. All in all I found it strangely appealing. Checkout www.davidyetton.com for samples and details.
