Elemeno P: Trouble in Paradise

By Shaun Chait
The band that has more hits than Trade Me is back with the follow up to their triple platinum debut 'Love & Disrespect'. Overseen by American punk producer Sal Villanueva, 'Trouble In Paradise' was recorded at Sing Sing Studio, Melbourne and mixed at Villanueva's Big Blue Meenie Studio in New Jersey. If Elemeno P can be accused of following their own pop/punk formula, at least it's a winning one. This time round, by the end of my first listen I had written down eight of the 11 tracks as potential hits, and second single Burn was one of the three left out! Lead off track You Are is an absolute cracker, and by the time track nine The Day I Went Under hits, you are left marvelling at the riffs and vocal lines this band is blessed with. In fine pop/punk tradition, the band have even had a crack at a cover of the Verlaines' classic Death And The Maiden. Elemeno P have their own guitar sound, and it's nice to hear more of bassist Lani Purkis' voice this time round.
