Dub Conspiracy: Dub Conspiracy Recordings
By Martyn Pepperell
I have been reluctant to seek terms to really describe our unique modern South Pacific sound, but listening to this album it finally sank in that what I had previously thought of as an Aotearoa movement now extends even beyond Australasia and influences artists across the globe, well, the UK at least. This album is 13 tracks of mostly locally produced reggae, hip hop, jungle, garage, dancehall, drum and bass, but to be honest almost every track flows between styles and genres during its 3-5 minutes of shining time. Tiki, Kora, Budspells, Cornerstone Roots, Salmonella Dub, Sunshine Soundsystem, Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, Concord Dawn, Semper Fi and more. Production and mastering by the Dub Conspiracy (ie. Salmonella Dub) crew is clean and crisp across the whole CD which has been put out under the band's label of the same name. The cover artwork is exceptional and the vibe never drops. Dub Conspiracy looks set to be the perfect backdrop for summer 2005/2006.
