Keith Palmer: Twice Bitten
By Tim Page
There's no doubting who Keith Palmer's musical influences are - Hendrix, Led Zep, Deep Purple. More are kindly listed for us in the last song of the album Good Old Days, just in case you hadn't worked it out by then. Palmer co-wrote all the songs with wife Shonah (except for Yeah Yeah Yeah on which Rob Mayes contributed), and played the lion's share of the instruments, with help from Chris Spark, Anthony Su and Rob Mayes, the latter also serving as engineer and producer. This is rock the way we remember it in the days of AM only radio, only this time 'round it's better recorded. Musicianship and songwriting are both very slick. If there's one thing that lets it down, it's the packaging, but that's a minor - it's the music that really counts eh? There is some great new Kiwi content for Radio Hauraki here and anyone answering 'yes' to the 'Do you wanna rock?' question will probably enjoy cranking up the volume on 'Twice Bitten'.
