Sola Rosa: Moves On
By Jessie Scoullar
Demonstrating phenomenal progression, 'Moves On' continues the musical journey of Andrew Spraggon from 'Solarized' in 2001 and 'Haunted Out-Takes' in 2003. This time Spraggon calls on some mates to help out with the fiddly bits, creating the ideal blend of organic instrumentation and electronic grooves. As well as the band (Will Scott, Ned Ngatae, John Highsted and Matt Short) Spraggon also recruits some sterling guests. Nathan Haines brings What If? to life along with scratching from Manuel Bundy. Deva Mahal's gorgeous vocals surpass the style of Lauren Hill on first single Redeemer, Spikey Tee adds a ragga flavour on Badman, and Paul St Hilaire brings on the reggae-roots goodness on Breezes Blowing. With such quality ingredients the result is a foregone conclusion - a superbly eclectic collection embracing a smorgasbord of influences spanning lounge, jazz, dub and more. Mastered by Angus McNaughton, 'Moves On' strikes the perfect balance between hectic and mellow.
