Various: The Green Room 002: Wahine

By Jessie Scoullar
The folk at LOOP Recordings have done it again. They've put together a collection featuring NZ's finest female singers in an unprecedented format, with the dual aim of promoting local creative culture and showcasing the spirit of women. Modest goals? They're easily achieved thanks to the high calibre of the performers. Opening with the completely sumptuous Passion by TrinityRoots, featuring a magnetic Stephanie Hearfield, the highlights flow thick and fast. Life by Teremoana Rapley will stay with you all day, I Feel by Tubbs is carried by heartbreakingly poignant vocals from Miss La, and Shake the Smooth Machine by Lucid3 adds sophistication. Ladi6 has a turn at the controls offering her 6 mix of Seek Know More by 50Hz, and Tangata by Teariki features lovely te reo by Vicki Teariki. Ariana Tikao's Korakorako brings primeval forests full of native birdsong to mind, and Anika Moa's God In His Culture is breathtaking. And there's much more! As with '001: Eco Nation', 'Wahine' is produced in collaboration with the Green Party, and MP Nandor Tanczos' spoken word track on 001 is replicated here with inspiring words from MP Metiria Turei.
