Breakthrough: Give It All

Much of our contemporary Christian worship music comes from overseas - mainly Hillsong Australia. So it comes as a welcome change to hear some original indigenous material that more than holds its own against the Australian behemoth. Breakthrough is the band used for the Breakthrough Conference which is associated with the Encounter Christian Centre - none of which really matters as all you need to know is that this group rocks! While the style is archetypical pop/rock the band (vocals - Vanessa Stradwick; drums - Berwick Douglas; bass - David Hill; keyboards - Warwick Robinson; loops etc - Ruben Douglas) have managed to bring a fresh approach to a well-worn genre. The 12 original tracks have been well captured by Ruben Douglas at Ecco Recording Studios and feature strong playing throughout, which along with Stradwick's powerful voice, creates an album that is bound to become a firm favourite with youth groups. The band thankfully didn't opt for the often used (in this genre anyway) 'live' recording which means we can actually hear the words and detail in the performance. A music book is available for those who want to recreate the Breakthrough experience themselves.
