Various: Christchurch - The Music
By Peter Dent
This two-disc set is not only the crème de la crème of Christchurch music, it is effectively the crème de la crème of New Zealand music. A celebration, if you will, of the Cantabrian songsmith; a musical timeline covering the period from 1963 to nigh-on the present. The initial brainchild of (former Narcs bassist) Tony Waine, several other music heavyweights got on board to help complete the project. Rikki Morris mastered the album, 'rescuing' several of the tracks from scratched vinyl in the process. EMI got in behind the compilation, as did local stalwarts Al Park and Arnie Van Busel. The informative liner notes were written by Jim Wilson, Chris Moar and Paul Stephenson - obviously Christchurch music aficionados from way back! 'Christchurch - The Music' is a well-packaged, entertaining, must-own for all New Zealand music fans. And especially for all you Christchurch-raised folk, this is a walk down memory lane; an irreplaceable and priceless musical experience indeed.
