The Accelerants: Blood and Bones

By Jessie Scoullar
The Accelerants are all about '60s garage beat rock. Think of the Sonics, the Cramps, the Misfits, add a strong element of swing and '50s ballad styles - feel like dancing yet? Performed live, it's the easiest thing on earth to get your feet moving, and when you throw in vocal harmonies, Brylcreem and pulsating organs - beeline to the dancefloor! They've done a good job of translating their rough-and-ready sound for this studio album, recorded by guitarist/vocalist Marty Squire (ex D-Super) at his Language of Love recording studio and mixed by Gil Craig. The sprawling seven minute track Motorcade was once described by Squire as the Accelerants' best song, and on first listen it is the standout track. On subsequent listens Feel So Good, Looking At You and the previously released Up On Your Heels come into their own. While the production is rather lo-fi this Wildside release is one of the most authentic rock'n'roll records I've enjoyed in recent years.
