Various: Our Music Volume 1 - 20 Rare and Classic Songs From Aotearoa

By Nick Batt
What do Bunny Walters, Prince Tui Teka, John Rowles, Herbs, Emma Paki and Dalvanius Prime have in common? Well apart from a similar ethnicity, they along with other artists appear on BMG's latest compilation album - 'Our Music Volume 1'. As with all classic hits albums there are many tracks that you would prefer to forget. But wait there is a glimmer of hope! Tucked in amongst Cheryl Moana Marie, Poi E, Today I Killed a Man I Didn't Know and Mum are some lesser known gems such as Mahinarangi Tocker's When I Grow Up, Emma Paki's System Virtue and Oceania's Kotahitanga but then I'd suggest that you get their albums instead. I personally find the track selection too musically diverse and the tracks in this combination make the album feel fragmented. Maybe Volume 2 will be different.
