Po-Ha: Supercharged
By Tony Parker
For those too young to know, a Po-Ha was a particularly explosive firework that brought many hours of pleasure! Wellington three piece Po-Ha can be equally as explosive with their full on brand of rock and roll, all guitar crunch and thundering bass and drums. Supercharged follows 2001's 'Cruel and Unusual' EP, and is a relatively short (7 tracks, 34 minutes) demonstration of Po-Ha's power, dynamics and melodic sensibilities. And although comparisons can sometimes be odious, local touchstones Shihad, and in places Straitjacket Fits, are handy reference points. Production wise 'Supercharged' sounds a little thin though it's easy to imagine how powerful these songs would be live. So in the absence of a Po-Ha gig in your town this could be the next best thing. www.po-ha.com
