Campbell Lovatt: Gourmet Guitar

By Roger Batt
Campbell Lovatt offers us a truly varied selection from his public performance repertoire. Greensleeves and Bach’s Prelude No.1 appear along with well known classical guitar offerings like Romance from Jeux Interdits and Pernambuco’s Sons de Carrilhoes, and comfortably take their place with tunes from Lloyd Webber and The Carpenters. There is something here for everyone. His Jose Ramirez guitar produces a resonant, clear tone and the CD ably fulfils its purpose in providing just the right ambience for a fine meal with friends. Distracting and extraneous background noises are noticeable on some tracks - most likely caused by a misplaced microphone. However, considering the relaxed atmosphere this music produces, your diners will probably not even notice and the distraction is insufficiently intrusive to spoil what is a very pleasant recording.
