FAST CREW: Set The Record Straight
By Andrew Hughes
With a bunch of unorthodox techniques abused in this album, the purist may become disappointed on first listen. Remember, it's not designed for the likes of us, go back and explore it in a more commercial mind-state. Many songs cover the standard pop play list topics such as partying, new and lost love, home, partying, haters, and um did I say partying? The album lacks range in terms of song-style, production, and some of the 'rapping' is barely up to standard. The most annoying areas for me were the DJ Clue-ish shouted intro's, and the over-use of the vocoder. Kid Deft has most definitely got skills with a pen and a mic. This could even be a good enough reason to listen to the album, as his thoughts transcend to rhyme clearly and precisely. Songs such as Your World and Mine and Oops My Bad deserve a listen, overall though, this album will be most useful in steering young heads toward hip hop music.
