PEACHY KEEN: Heart Approved Institute

By Mahinarangi Tocker
I'm a fan of Monkey Records but Peachy Keen leaves me luke warm. There are some good songs here but some of the arrangements are a bit confusing. I do like the musical mood changes from the emotional Not Your Kind of Girl, to the quirks of Painted Lips. Vocalist Kathryn van Beek, unfortunately doesn't have much vocal conviction to the interesting stories that she has put to sound on this CD. I think I'd prefer to see Peachy Keen performing live and can picture that visually, I'd appreciate their sound more. For people looking for new songs to add to their repertoire, I suggest these songs would be good to have under your belt. Some good tunes and lyrics for others to place their personality of sound to.
