Ritchie Pickett: The Wicked Piano Pumpin' Pickett
By Nick Batt
Pickett is one of our kings of country/rock and this latest offering is his third album following 'All Strung Out In A Bunch'. Recorded live at the King's Arms Tavern, Auckland (Nov. '03) and the Hotel Waihi Beach (NYE '03), Pickett is pumped, primed and ready to play. Alongside him is a very able group of musicians - Bill Chambers (slide guitar), Simon Elton (bass and vox), Neil Hannan (bass), Gordon Joll (drums), Glen Moffat (guitar & vox), Chet O'Connell (guitar) and Dale O'Sullivan (drums). Consisting of songs from his earlier albums with some previously unreleased material, the album starts strongly and doesn't let up until the very end. Pickett has had a hugely varied musical career but is best known for his country/rock music and his performances in the popular TV program 'That's Country'. This is piano driven country/rock and ballads performed perfectly - Pickett in his prime.
