Twinset: Mystical Soul
By Nick Batt
The groove-masters of lounge are back with another album to take you into the small wee hours of the morning. 'Mystical Soul' follows hot on the tail of last year's superb 'It's a Summer Feeling' and signals a change from the up-tempo feel of that earlier album to a more relaxed, slightly sparser sound. Twinset (Daniel Yeabsley on tenor sax and flute, Paul K. Hoskin drummer and organist Christopher Yeabsley), have enlisted the vocal assistance of Black Seeds' Barnaby Weir, Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy's Drop) and Lotus Hartley to create an album that is so laid back it can't possibly be legal. Recorded at The Surgery in Newtown and engineered by Dr Lee Prebble, the quality and the musicianship are, as usual, superb. Fusing a potpourri of jazz and lounge styles with a twist of dub (shaken not stirred), Twinset show yet again that when it comes to smooth groove there is no limit.
