Crumb: So Dirty Everyday
By Peter Dent
Crumb are an impressive young rock quartet from the capital, with a no-holds-barred attitude. This debut album on Antenna features 12 solid rock tracks, highlighting the group's strong songs, great hooks and sometimes provocative lyrics! Everyone loves 'sound-alikes', so here's my pick: Kelly Jones from Stereophonics in the vocals, and a nod toward the might of Shihad in the music. This is a well-recorded album (the guitar and drum sounds are awesome!), courtesy of producer John Davidson, and engineer Dave Rhodes, and the album sounds as good as any international releases, while still being distinctly NZ. Guests include the great Graham Brazier on harmonica, and Steve Gallagher on organ. The album also features a very impressive cover and booklet: that's a great crest guys! While they haven't toured far and wide Crumb have established an excellent live performance reputation which this album reinforces. www.crumb.co.nz
