Pacific Heights: Borne Together
By Ania Glowacz
A beautifully packaged, sublimely assembled collection of new and old drum'n'bass tracks from Fabel's own DJ Pylonz - featuring remixes and major contributions from the likes of Shapeshifter's Devin Abrams (saxophone), and overseas contributors Blame (UK), Sardi (Perth), Motive (Melbourne), Vice Versa (Sydney), The Numbers and Wellington's C_Form. It's an extremely smooth, delectable journey - the inspiring sax-led opening track Arteska putting its stamp on the proceedings to follow. Featuring 10 years worth of material in revised or refreshed form, it's a uniquely New Zealand-tinged musical odyssey (similar to a live Shapeshifter experience - with the harsher edges carefully removed), and the accompanying artwork is outstanding. The overseas contributors give it an international appeal, yet it retains the original seeds of NZ d'n'b as hatched in Christchurch. Fans of drum'n'bass, or anyone just beginning to explore this genre, should add this stunning release to their collection. Recommended without reservation, a catalogue item Fabel Music can justifiably be proud of.
