Nimbus: Nimbus
By Stephen Jewell
Brothers Cameron and Alasdair Hay, Nick Feisst and Tuhua Mutu - Nimbus originate from Hamilton - though you would think that they had been breathing the same Napier sea air as Jakob or had been bunkered down in Dunedin with HDU. Nimbus specialise in the same brand of epic, emotional space rock as both those bands and while the structures of some of the album's nine songs are a tad on the repetitive side, it is a slow grower. Predominantly instrumental, Feisst's gruff vocals do appear on the suitably titled, Rawk and last track, Another Day. While Nimbus would undoubtedly claim to have been influenced by the same kind of somnambulant, wall of noise guitar punks that have inspired the aforementioned bands, the jangly guitar of tracks like Epoch is actually reminiscent of I Will Follow era U2. Out on Stickdog Records, nicely packaged and well produced it deserves more attention than it is probably going to get.
