Riverhead Slide: Naked Blues
By Rachel Fallon
The title of this album describes it quite nicely with its very basic, stripped down production, as is often the case with similar blues recorded work. This is an independent release, recorded at Wild Records by Aron Neale and produced by the Auckland-based 3-piece. The compositions, with the exception of two covers, are written by singer and guitarist Steve Wigz with a stand out, catchy, entertaining original Midlife Crisis Blues. Since the early '90s the band have been gigging regularly around the North Island on the pub and blues festival circuit, whilst producing two previous independent albums. The experience they have gained from years of gigging shines through in the standard of playing, especially Wigz' slide guitar and Rick Marsh on harmonica. No other genres involved here, just good old fashioned straight forward blues. If this sounds like your cup of tea email: wigz@iconz.co.nz for a taste of the album.
