The Finn Brothers: Everyone Is Here
By Peter Dent
Split Enz, Crowded House, Finn, solo albums aplenty...what is there left to say about the brothers Finn that hasn't already been said? Well, in this case, plenty! This Finn Brothers release is unique: it doesn't have the pop sensibilities of a Crowded House record, or the quirky, fun atmosphere of a Split Enz record. In fact, this is quite unlike anything I've heard from the Finn boys. Folk-based pop rock, ethereal and beautiful, and at the same time rootsy and earthy; every song a masterpiece. That's probably the thing that sets this record apart: you immediately feel that you know each song, even when you're hearing them for the first time. They're timeless, catchy, thought-provoking and memorable. Producer Mitchell Froom hits the spot: he obviously knows how to pull the best from these antipodean geniuses. Guest musicians include New York-born, Neil Finn alumni, Sebastian Steinberg, and US studio wunderkind, Matt Chamberlain (who has worked with everyone from Bowie to Macy Gray!). Put simply, 'Everyone is Here' has raised the bar on the Finns' previous body of work.
