Horror Story: Graverobbers From Outer Space
By Jacob Connor
Sounding like it was recorded on microcassette through a wall of baffles, 'Graverobbers From Outer Space' combines Horror Story's reconstituted 2001 'Monsterpeice' set with 10 tracks recorded in 2002. Coming on like a 1950's beach party at the crypt, the influence of Glen Danzig and Jerry Only cannot be overstated, and is acknowledged here with shout-outs and Misfits quifs adorning the cover. I'm reminded of a pinball machine called Monster Bash, where Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy at al. team up for some hard doo-wop flavoured rockin'. Similarly, Horror Story are a rough'n'ready four piece rock combo dressed in leather and grime with a line in B-grade cinema-inspired trashadelic retro rockabilly. The package includes an el cheapo but quite stylish black and white video for Tombstone filmed in the Symonds St cemetry. Trapped as they are in the sludge and decay, the 18 tracks presented here do suffer somewhat from a monochromatic sameness but perhaps that fits with the concept's living dead nightmare ambience. Mix with bad drugs and cheap vodka before heading out to your next punk party.
