Lea Maalfrid: Goddess of Love
By Tim Page
Coming after more than 30 years of music industry experience, Lea Maalfrid's debut solo album could be described as a long time coming. Along with being the 1977 Silver Scroll winner, Maalfrid is a songwriter who has seen significant international success having been a part of the Nashville machine, with her songs being recorded by the likes of Sheena Easton and Bonnie Rait. Recorded at Sydney's Red Room and produced by Mike Harvey, this album is abundant in soaring, ethereal arrangements, aptly complimented by Maalfrid's rich, mature vocals, and melodic piano. There is an obvious New Age theme to this album, apparent through both the lyrics and arrangements, further reflected in the artwork. Stylistically it would fall a little outside the mainstream, but is very well crafted and presented - obviously a labour of love. More information from www.spiritualpage.com.au
