Another showcase of up-and-comers - this time the work of producer Dominic Leauga and his multi-genre Auckland record label D-1 Entertainment. The mark of a solo producer is apparent here - the self-described mix of "hip hop, dance hall, neo soul, R&B, rock and opera" fits together better than it might have, because of a consistency in musical and production quality. The album exudes Island charm - it's smart, funny and soulful. There are some beautiful tracks, like Keshia's Even After All and Peta's tracks Fire and Like Woah. Rap group the Immigrantz insert some seriously funny humour with Island Timin. With their debut single Koko Luv (sung by the D-1 Entertainment Family) already well received at radio, the sky is indeed the limit and with boundless talent, we look forward to the next releases from the D-1 stable. With fat beats, smooth MCing and soaring vocals, this next generation of Pacific Island talent should be warmly received.
