MC Tali: Lyric On My Lip

Taranaki-born drum'n'bass girl MC Tali is not just a talented vocalist and songwriter - she's a trailblazing pioneer. Key contributors to this brave and unique album include producer Roni Size, whose label this album is released on. Prestigious company to be making music with, but Tali wouldn't be there if she didn't have the versatility, passion and raw talent required to make the grade. The drum'n'bass singles Lyric On My Lip and Blazin are killer tunes that have preceded this album release, but that's not the only musical palette on show here. 'Lyric On My Lip' touches down on several genres besides - jazz, hip hop, r'n'b, even pop! The girl can both sing and MC. She can also rap, play piano, and write great lyrics. There are a couple of cheesy jazzy bits, like in the ironically named Airport Lounge, but it's forgivable and in context. The rest of the album doesn't match up to the strength of the singles and a warmer vocal recording would be great to hear, but with the bonus of the unmistakable Reprazent crew beats and bass on the four d'n'b tunes, this album will satisfy and surprise most comers.
