4 Man Bob: 4 Man Bob
By Rachel Fallon
Hailing from Christchurch, this 6-piece band (five guys and one lucky bass-playing girl), pride themselves in their energetic, friendly live performances, definitely reflected well in this, their first CD recording since they founded in 2001. Recorded aptly with the assistance of engineer Ian McAllister at Sweetjuice Studios in Christchurch, this is a strong debut from the group. All tunes have a distinctive ska sound with a lively brass section, but rock style guitar riffs add another dimension giving more of a punk and rock feel to some. Lyrical subjects range from love and tagging to solidarity and school days all with a serious sense of humour continued onto the liner notes. The song Pommie Git certainly stood out due to the relatively convincing and rather humorous English accent. Jack was good also with its great use of guitar and slightly Blink 182 feel. At present distribution is only through music websites such as amplifier.co.nz, however this is an excellent album and I'm sure it will find its way into good music stores in no time.
