An interesting collection of hip hop and Brazilian dance produced and put together by new Gisborne based record label Te Toka. The CD and label, which is connected to the Matapuna Training Center's Creative Edge Music Course, were designed to showcase and promote musical works and recording artists from the east coast region. Of the four acts on offer, Supreme Souljaa are definitely the crew who bring the most professional, polished sound with light, smooth beats complimented by clear mc-ing and quality vocals. Dee En Tee and Matapuna use simpler beats and often more battle style lyrics but all three express well their own stories of partying and life on the sometimes wild East Coast. An unusual addition to all this hip hop are two tracks from BrazilBeat Sound System, a duo hailing originally from both the US and Brazil. They combine Latin percussion with electronic beats creating a dance remix originally recorded back in the US. Go community led initiatives I say! More info at www.tetoka.com
