The Rainy Days: Hot Shit
By Mikhal Norris
If you have not heard of them before, The Rainy Days are an Auckland four piece (two boys and two girls) that play alternative acoustic rock. Their second full length album 'Hot Shit' is the follow up to The Rainy Days debut album 'Spongo Mummagumma Bully Beef and Microchips' (I'm glad this album is a bit easier to say!). Standout tracks include title track Hot Shit, a tale of a bad time in Thailand, a bad trip to the hospital and an old dishwashing commercial. And for the more politically inspired, Third World Shoes, is about working for the man, dictators, foreign investment, world war four and of course doing it for Nike and shucking for Chucks. Definitely indie in approach and recording style, the only thing that is lacking is the band's uncatchy cover-art. 'Hot Shit' may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is definitely worth a listen.
