Jet Jaguar: Think About It Later
By Emma Philpott
From the opening horns, this first release from Jet Jaguar grasps at a languid funk. Melborne-based Kiwi Michael Upton takes both production and composition credits on most of the 11 tracks here, showcasing a minimalistic and mostly instrumental bag of tricks, scattered with a few well-placed vocals and samples. It feels like house music without the urgency, the style of late evening cocktail drinkers rather than all night booty shakers. While not Upton's first project, 'Think About It Later' is his debut release through Wellington's Capital Recordings, which should make it easy peasy to hunt out in record stores.
