Trip: Pretty Cool
By Jessie Scoullar
Previously known as Trip to the Moon, Trip are old school soundsmiths Tom Ludvigson and Trevor Reekie. 'Pretty Cool' is an understatement of the standard of the album, the shortened name has meant no abbreviation on quality. Trip combine electronic sampling and live recordings to create a seamless blend of multi-layered jazz-influenced electronic soundscapes. Opening number Pretty Cool features Greg Johnson on trumpet, and the CD includes a music video for this track, complementing the layered sound with layered images. White Cat, features a wonderfully articulate Nigel Gavin on guitar, bringing a traditional feel into a new context. Chris Watts' soulful saxophone dominates Svenska Takter. The pace is lifted with piano-driven trance on Hardcase Fastpace, then returns to a drifting and surging blend of computer manipulated soundbites, carefully crafted into organic and textured outings into space. This album offers a magnificent atmosphere for 50 minutes of chilled out late night or early morning listening. Out on Antenna Records.
