The Sentimental Plastic: Rolling Country

By Liz Barry
Brothers Sean and Regan O'Brien who founded Wellington band The Sentimental Plastic used to do the pop thing very well in the '90s as The Livids. They recorded a track for Flying Nun's 'God Save the Clean' tribute album and supported a host of other NZ bands. Now joined by their sister Anna this album was released at Bodega in May. The first six tracks are bright and warm, contrasting nicely with the frosty edge of the final six, but wrapping up very nicely full circle with the gentle dawn of Inside my Head. You'll enjoy the raucous riff of Fireworks, the smooth rhythmic challenge of Foxton Straight and the more restrained Run in Time. With its sparkling guitar melodies and melodic, changing musical scenery, a journey through 'Rolling Country' is well worth taking. Distributed through In Music.
