Brother Love: Spread Our Wings and Fly
By Martyn Pepperell
Following several years of rest and reflection, Brother Love is back in the game with his new album. Released in New Zealand through King Music, this recording harkens back to the style of his early works and uses the unique sound of coconut shell ukutletes ( a traditional Cook Island instrument) to express his original island reggae sound, formed over many years spent in the island, and steeped in a career full of releases and tours across New Zealand and Australia. Guest instrumentation is provided by the likes of William Dean, Faipoto Tupu Aporo as well as tracks written by Dion D-Harp and an UB40 cover (Tears From My Eyes). 'Spread Our Wings' covers all bases nicely and is reflective of its unique island flavor. An attempt by Brother Love to cater for all 15 of the Cook Islands, which came across to this listener as successful.
