Various: Tangiwai Volume One

By Mahinarangi Tocker
How do you write 'oonst oonst', in Maori? You don't. Just dance! This album of dance tracks and sociable sing-a-longs makes doing the housework fun. From the first track, Kahu, to the last, Te Wahine, you will find yourself tapping along appropriately This collaboration between Richie Campbell and Terangihau Gilbert is a fine example of mixing European dance with Polynesian rhythm and movement. There is a dash of South American funky soul, and electronica as well. The lyrics are 'I te reo Maori'. My only complaint is that there is no written indication of who the singers are. Some singing I loved immediately and some had to grow on me. The spiritual sentiments of this 'tino pai' collection are international, as stated on the back of the CD cover, 'Music of the Soul, or the Heart'. Check it out - through Kahu Records. Ka pai te kanikani!
