JT: Scream and Shout
By Tim Page
Don't be mislead by the title - this album features neither screaming nor shouting - rather it's a smooth collection of original tracks, penned and produced by JT - aka John Tuala. With a musical background grounded in Samoan church choir and convent school, JT has always been immersed in music. Add into this mix hip hop, R 'n B and blues influences, plus a bit of technology, and what results is a very listenable album. JT takes care of the guitars, bass and much of the programming, with some guest musos helping out. To me, this album works best as a whole experience. There were no individual tracks that leaped out at me, but plenty that got into a mellow groove and stayed there. This is the third of JT's independently produced albums, starting as far back as 1991, displaying his long haul commitment to the business. He has played on a number of tours and support performances, as well as many TV and radio sessions. This album stands up well both in quality and originality, and makes for a good listen.
