Tough Love: Tough Love
By Nick Batt
Can you say 'big sounding classic rock grooving guitar band'? If you can't then try saying Tough Love instead, it will amount to the same thing. The Wellington based band's self-titled debut album is a perfect example of rock the way it used to be. Recorded in their home studio 'The Bunker' in Karori, Mark Graham - guitar and vocals, Johnny Blades - guitar, Seamus Ebbs - drums and Liam Dollymore on bass have put together a strong original album that tips the hat to some of the great guitar bands of a bygone era. Graham has a great voice and the strong guitar riffs make for some serious head nodding tracks. Somehow Tough Love have managed to incorporate enough variety in their sound to keep the listener interested right to the end. If this album is any indication then their live gigs must really rock! This is one four piece that I'll be looking out for.
