DREAMS OF THE DEAD: The Frontier
By Stu Edwards
Back with a line up and fresh sound, Auckland-based grunge/metallers Dreams Of The Dead return with their second album release. Set over a backdrop of political reflection, the band’s songs tell Wild West tales over a metal theme. Songs such as Got My Eye On You bounce along before pummelling the unsuspecting listener. Shock n’ Awe shows the band’s roots with heavy riffs a plenty. Their diversity is radical and the country-tinged Snake Country is followed by the psychedelic metal King Of The Snakes. Such a range of styles can be seen as the band’s Achilles heel, or their strongest asset, with the listener being led on a journey of unpredictability. Rounded off with a lo-fi hidden track ‘The Frontier’ boasts a spirit of adventure, politics and attitude in equal measure.
