THE RAG TAG SCOOBIE DOOBIE GOOD TIME BAND: Sunshine Holiday

By Kate Foster
A stonking collection of ditties from a group of like-minded individuals with basically one goal in mind… to make you smile. Their full band name really should be dominating the children’s party and family event circuit, and this is stated without a hint of sarcasm or snark; I’m pretty sure any parent would be thrilled to listen and bob along with the real tunes on ‘Sunshine Holiday’ over the plastic wearers of the coloured skivvies who shall not be named. This 15-track album clusters uke’s, kazoos, brass and all the cool, fun instruments that were always snapped up first during ‘music time’ on the mat at Primary. Most definitely influenced by 1920s vaudevillian accompaniments, Phil Riley is the ringmaster leading us through a boardwalk vision that he has completely recorded, mixed and mastered himself at his Life of Riley Studios in Lower Hutt. Joined by Charles Harter on songwriting duties, Riley Harter also makes a debut as the tinkling voice(s) of The Scoob-ettes. Excellent fun and definitely family friendly, surrender to whimsy and bloody enjoy yourself would ya?
