SHARK JUMP THIEF: Shark Jump Thief EP

By Kate Foster
If this is just the well-produced first taster from Shark Jump Thief, then expect a lot from their unique sound in the future. First song on this very tight little three-track EP, Lean On, has a very Fall Out Boy feel featuring cool, staccato drum lines, and flirty melodies and just like a gymnastic routine it’s got a good strong finish. Get Me The Fuck Out Of Here is a tense, impatient little migraine of a track, building and building into an explosion of stop start rhythms, climbing through some very clever tempo changes and giving a giddy carnivalesque feel before plunging back into slower, gluggier moments. Final cut, Days of Blood and Gloria carries a video to showcase its extremely Queens of the Stone Age texture, particularly in the vocal department. Influenced and intended or not, the third track most certainly captures that sexy uptight swagger that Homme and co. carry in spades, as the steady skins thump on this little pearler entice and increase the hunger for more. Which is exactly what you want with an EP, the urge to push the play button again, just one more time.
