GEOFF ONG: Pictures EP

By Amy Maclaine
Geoff Ong’s self-produced and self-recorded debut EP proves a perfect summer release. Between You, Me, and the Irony, the utterly catchy opening track, bursts with energy. Cute, twangy guitar hooks and hand claps, as well as super sweet lyrics, overflow in this foot-tapper of a song. The guitar-driven Ain’t It The Truth changes the pace being a powerful, gospel-inspired ballad. Strong piano chords, brass and a rock and roll vibe make Implications another catchy tune, its making it easily stand out. Rainy Day Song slows the pace once again and finishes the EP off impeccably. Despite the variety Ong delivers each with unmistakeable and unwavering energy and each song is easy to relate to. In fact, the only problem I can find with ‘Pictures’ is that there are only five songs – Geoff Ong is definitely an artist I can’t wait to here more from.
