FULL MOON FIASCO: Cosmic Palms

By Ania Glowacz
This album has ready appeal with its psychedelic garagey vibe providing an instant step back in time. Incredibly, it’s largely a solo project by Will Rattray from Newtown, Wellington, with help from friends on a few tracks to bring it to fruition. This is a quality experience the whole way. With all the best elements of the late ’60s (British and American), it sounds straight from that era – alarmingly authentic, but so natural – while it also references bands like The Verve and Ride or a stripped back Loop from the ’90s. Still, it sounds so fresh it manages to be contemporary as well, vintage yet timeless. The cool vibe hooks you in from the opening notes. Recorded at home, played mainly at parties, this is very laidback and astounding. Its main strength is in being able to instantly recreate a ’60s vibe in your living room. Think lava lamps and lots of smoke – incense or whatever, and take a trip back in time. If, as they say, time is an illusion and everything is really happening in different dimensions at the same time – this album will help prove it.
