MINUIT : Dance Music Will Tear Us Apart

Minuit have always been more that the sum of their parts and this new EP illustrates that well. Vocalist Ruth Carr gave fellow Minuit members Ryan Beehre and Paul Dodge (DJs Funknslocuts and Gimme A C!) a collection of lyrics and let them do what they wanted. Armed with these lyrics (and sounds from Minuit’s archives), Beehre and Dodge came up with three tracks each that showcase their different styles for the dance floor. Stellar vocals are provided by Carr (with the exception of Out of Luck which is sung by Dodge), and typically she delivers idiosyncratic lyrics with catchy off-kilter phrasing. The beats range from insistent and staccato on Stop Dancing to the slower, delayed rhythm of Of Regrets, and are fashioned as new tracks, though all are either remixes or direct cuts from earlier material – again pointing out the breadth of Minuit’s musical abilities. This is a good addition to the band’s discography and something a little unexpected, especially considering the direction they were heading with their last album ‘Find Me Before I Die a Lonely Death Dot Com’.
