CRIMSON RAIN: One By One EP
By Alistar Wickens
A lot of bands haven’t even worked their way around to performing by the six month mark, and here this Auckland foursome is putting out an EP. And a good one at that. The production is tight and the lads have obviously spent some time, and money, making sure they got the sound they wanted. I was a little disappointed to find that the intro wasn’t really a song, making ‘One By One’ only four tracks long, but it’s definitely left me wanting more, so that’s got to be a good thing. Coming from diverse musical backgrounds, the sound is a funky blend of metal, rock, grunge, with a hint of classical and Flamenco thrown in to the mix. Their sound wasn’t as heavy as I’d been led to believe, but there is a metal attitude running through it (similar to Agent, but not quite as funk driven nor metally). I can’t wait to see what another year of writing and performing together will bring from Crimson Rain.
