Fat Freddys Drop: Live At Roundhouse London

By Lucy Mulligan
FFD likely leave you with images of summer at the beach, barbecues and
festivals, however our revered all-stars were rugging-up warm last
Christmas and delivering some of their finest music live at the
legendary Roundhouse venue in London. This album was recorded at the
converted rail house in Camden, where they entertained a clearly
enraptured audience with songs from their latest album ‘Dr Boondigga
and the Big BW’. They tracks here include The Camel, The Raft, Pull
the Catch, and Shiverman, and in typical Freddys’ live fashion the
shortest track clocks in at 10 minutes 17, with the album cruising out
to nearly 80 minutes, including MC Slave introductions and the whole
gang pulling out some excellent improv and grooves. The CD sounds like
it could have been delivered straight from a studio such is their spot
on delivery, although the atmosphere of an ex-pat audience and
Freddys’ long (and even longer) slow build ups provide quite a
different vibe to the ‘Dr Boondigga’ album.
