Salon Kingsadore: Mountain Rescue

By Michael Flynn
Guitarist Gianmarco Liguori began the eclectic label Sarang Bang
Records in ’96, initially to release his own music, since then
releasing a small but fine catalogue of interesting albums. ‘Mountain
Rescue’ is one of cinematic soundscapes and jazz funk grooves from his
own band Salon Kingsadore. Following on from their second album ‘Hotel
Azteca’ the band has produced a set of instrumentals that would fit
well upon the silver screen. Liguori, along with keyboard player Billy
Squire, Steven Tait on drums and bassist Hayden Sinclair start off the
album at a cracking pace with Jump Start. A rather raw Lunch with Jan
Hammer follows next which leads on to the very lovely The Gold Stereo.
The album nicely twists from piece to piece, taking you in various
directions along the way. The engaging Floating On The Nile, slowly
builds before suddenly dropping you on your head with the frantic High
Orbit Catastrophe. Joined by guests Brian Smith (sax/flute) and Edwina
Thorne (trumpet) this is an album not easy to define. But if it were a
soundtrack then it’s certainly from a movie that I would love to see.
