The Black Seeds: Pushed

By Reuben Keeling
A good remix album is one that appeals to more than just fans of the original release. It takes the essence of that original music and expands on its possibilities. This album, released through the Loop Recordings label, is all that and more. Take the solid Black Seeds rhythm from their debut 'Keep On Pushing', add a touch of jazz, d'n'b and hip-hop, and the result is a highly imaginative and enjoyable collection of music. Yet another in the growing list of local remix projects, but 'Pushed' is far more edgy and interesting than Salmonella Dub's phenonally successful 'Outside the Dubplates' album, due in part to the diverse group of remixers involved: DLT, Twinset, Pylonz, 50Hz and company all bring something different, but equally enjoyable. No need to enlist overseas artists to get a top-quality remix album. Just as good as the original.
