KNIGHTS OF THE DUB TABLE: Tronic EP

By Murielle Baker
Hailing from the Waikato, Knights Of The Dub Table showcase an array of musical talents in their reggae, drum ‘n’ bass, and hip hop infused EP. The six-piece formed in 2008 while at Wintec in Hamilton, later grabbing the attention of heavyweights Tiki Taane and Optimus Gryme after winning the York Street Bands Experiments competition in 2009. The two offer up a remix each of the group’s first track Sing It To Me, with Gryme sticking to his tried and true dubstep style while Taane produces a silky, bass-heavy track. It’s a risky move to have well-known names play around with their sound, but Knights Of The Dub Table measure up to the hype by holding their own with a warm smooth sound that’s carried by harmonising vocals and a blazing horn section. Second track Small is uplifting reggae that draws comparisons to The Black Seeds, but it is the third Living Care Free that stands out, with its catchy guitar riffs and heavy bass line that will get your head nodding. ‘Tronic’ displays the sextet’s burgeoning talents and indicates big things from the Knights to come in the future.
