THE OUTSIDERS: The Words Will Write Themselves
By Ania Glowacz
The Outsiders get straight into it – and impress instantly. If you’re into the anthemic singalong style of punk a la Kitsch or Sommerset, this will be right up your street. Supposedly only a year and a half old, this sounds more like a band that’s been on the circuit for for a several dedicated years – their gigging throughout Australia and Europe has definitely paid off. There’s a positive energy in every track, and the vox are ‘up’ without being pop/punk or emo. It’s edgy-as – and tight. The versatility of three vocalists adds interest with the band keeping things on an even, melodic keel throughout. Mixed and mastered by Andrew Buckton at Studio 203, the drums were done at Inca Studios with everything else recorded by the band around Newtown, Wellington in August/September 2009. This is a total winner. Steady, non-whiny and well worth your attention.
